Coats are purchased from second-hand shops for the purpose of upcycling. Selections are based on style and condition. They are washed before and after appliqués are applied to ensure colors do not run.
To clean your coat, machine wash cold on gentle cycle with mild detergent. Do not use bleach. Do not iron over the appliqué. Lay flat to dry. Should pilling occur, gently trim clumped fibers with scissors as one would with a sweater. Be careful not to cut the felt in the process.
